ROMANTIC BONDS, BINDS AND RUPTURES: WHEN LOVE HURTS
Romantic love heals, but it can also harm. When couples are deeply entrenched in physically and emotionally abusive ways of relating, a type of relational trauma can occur that has profound consequences for each member of the couple ? and for the therapist who is treating them.
NCSPP and the Psychoanalytic Couple Psychotherapy Group are proud to welcome Dr. Virginia Goldner to their 5th Annual Psychoanalytic Couple Psychotherapy event on October 20, 2012, to explore in depth the moral and clinical challenges of working with relational trauma in couple therapy. In this all-day event, Dr. Goldner will present two papers: "Romantic Bonds, Binds and Ruptures: Treating Couples on the Brink" and "When Love Hurts: Conjoint Treatment of Abusive Relationships" to be discussed by Dr. Rachel Peltz. Using videotaped illustrations, Dr. Goldner will offer clinical strategies to interrupt escalations, foster self-reflection, and increase personal accountability.
The event will be held at the David Brower Center in Berkeley. For more information and to register, please visit: http://www.ncspp.org/listings/2012_10_couple.html
