PSYCHOANALYTIC COUPLE PSYCHOTHERAPY GROUP NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2015-16 INTENSIVE STUDY PROGRAM IN PSYCHOANALYTIC PSYCHOTHERAPY OF COUPLES
PCPG's program offers immersion into the foundations of Tavistock and other psychoanalytic thinking about working with couples. Tavistock couple theory, rooted in Klein, Winnicott, Bion, Meltzer and others, explores a wide range of issues, including the implications of Oedipal development for couple functioning; unconscious object choice and shared unconscious anxieties; the role of projection in structuring couple relationships; sexuality; technical application of theory; and transference and countertransference in work with couples. The coming year will feature a rich array of theoretical classes, case conferences, and film events.
We are currently inviting applications for the first year of the program, which will include:
- Weekly classes and case conferences taught by a hybrid faculty, including clinicians from PCPG and TCCR and other psychoanalytic couple psychotherapists from around the country
- Viewing and discussion by faculty of PCPG of films relevant to understanding couples
- Program meetings on Friday afternoons from September 2015 to June 2016 in Berkeley, which include a theoretical class from 1:30 pm to 2:40 pm and a case conference from 2:50 pm to 4:00 pm.
The first year curriculum will include the following courses:
Theoretical Foundations of the Tavistock Method
The Frame
Difficult Couples and Narcissistic Relating
Oedipus, the Couple, and the Third
Listening to Couples
Weekly Case Conferences
Film Seminars
Cost of program: $3000 for the year for all PCPG classes, case conferences, video events, and in-person events with Bay Area and London faculty. The cost includes CEUs, which will be provided pending approval.
