NCSPP'S CORNER: MELISSA HOLUB, PH.D.
CONSULTATION, VITAL TO OUR WORK, NOW FREE TO NCSPP FULL MEMBERS!
I'll go out on a short limb and assume that most of us know the inestimable value of a good consulting relationship. No matter what configuration of patients we see, no matter how long we've been in the field, we all benefit from the presence of a third in our work.
Especially for analytically oriented practice, where depth work can be subtle, multifaceted, and ineffable, consultation supports our increased presence and attention.
After many years' focus on expanding services to our student and prelicensed members, we are excited to announce the NCSPP Consultation Service, a new benefit for all licensed members of NCSPP.
The NCSPP Consultation Service launched in November 2010, just two months ago, and it is already in high demand. All licensed members are eligible on a first-come, first-served basis to one pro bono consultation each year. Consultation is provided by "Senior Consultants," a pool of experienced clinicians who have agreed to contribute their time, experience, and thoughtful consideration to this collaborative effort.
As a member, you might take advantage of NCSPP's Consultation Service for any number of reasons:
- There is a case about which you've wanted help for some time;
- You've been thinking about getting consultation with an experienced analytic clinician;
- You could use a new point of view to help enliven your thinking about a particular case;
- You might simply want to take advantage of this great offering and, consequently, realize all the ways you could use a fresh, keen perspective in your work.
In this first year of the service, we are starting small and planning to add consultants in the future. We hope to add consultants in the South Bay as soon as possible.
If you are interested in receiving or providing consultation through the new Consultation Service, please see the links in the password protectedMember Services Area on our website. To see a list of benefits for all NCSPP members, or to become a member, please click here.
