We are thrilled to have renowned author, clinician, teacher, and recent Bay Area transplant, Jonathan Shelder, speaking at our upcoming Spring Scientific Meeting. Dr. Shedler will give a presentation and lead a clinical workshop based on his wealth of research data and experience. His work is a corrective to mainstream psychiatric diagnosis, which ignores underlying personality dynamics in favor of manifest behavioral symptoms á la the DSM 5. In his presentation, Dr. Shedler will illuminate how the same symptomatic picture – depression – can arise out of a variety of personality organizations (e.g., borderline, obsessive-compulsive, narcissistic, etc.), and how each character type indicates a different technical approach. Application of his framework will be demonstrated through a “live” supervision and role-playing.
