NCSPP and the Psychoanalytic Couple Psychotherapy Group (PCPG) are honored to bring Andrew Balfour, Clinical Director of the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships, to present his paper, "Growing Old Together in Mind and Body: A Psychoanalytic Exploration of Couples in Older Age." Dr. Balfour will address the challenges and rewards of working with couples when one member of the couple is faced with age-related impairment (such as dementia). While Mr. Balfour’s work acknowledges the difficulties that accompany loss of function and disability in age-related disorders, his approach highlights the opportunities for growth, transformation and psychic repair within the couple relationship. Leslye Russell, MFT will serve as the discussant and Dori Dubin, Psy.D. will present a case in the afternoon.
