In this video presentation, psychoanalyst and neuropsychologist Mark Solms concludes that consciousness originates in the id. Using the work of neuroscientists Jaak Panksepp and Antonio Damasio, Solms describes consciousness as embedded in our interior bodily and emotional perceptions, "the conscious id," rather than in the cortical, sensorimotor perceptions of the ego. His ideas will be discussed by Maggie Zellner, Ph.D. and Charles Fisher, MD. A clinical vignette will be presented as a basis for discussion.
