VIOLENCE, DESTRUCTION, AND SURVIVAL: A DAY WITH JONATHAN SKLAR
Jonathan Sklar is a leading scholar in the Independent tradition of British Object Relations. He draws on his rich knowledge of Winnicott, Ferenczi, Balint and Bollas in his work with traumatized patients, looking to build a traumatic narrative where representation has halted at the level of self-destructive action. In this deeply moving presentation, Dr. Sklar takes us through the layers of darkness with a severely disturbed woman as he helps her to represent her trauma. The body here is both the recipient and the source of her desperate communications. Dr. Sklar demonstrates a finely-tuned, courageous use of counter-transference; ultimately his analytic “act of freedom” moves the case forward and allows transformation to occur.
