This workshop will explore and discuss material related to diversity in the psychoanalytic classroom. In particular, the workshop will offer attendees an opportunity to address the anxieties that arise when teaching in diverse groups and about matters of which there are a diversity of opinions.
Inspired by the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP) May 2024 online colloquium of the same name, this workshop will explore the question: Why war?
In this class, we will analyze the interaction of an expert supervisor and two gifted supervisees as recorded in the Australian podcast, "Three Associating: Adventures in Relational Psychoanalytic Supervision." As we reflect on these supervisory conversations, we will learn from this supervisor's skillful exploration of supervisee blind spots and consider how these supervisees might be additionally helped by a supervisor's openness to her own blind spots.
