As the country’s largest local affiliate of Division 39 (Psychoanalysis) of the American Psychological Association, NCSPP has been a professional “home” for psychoanalytic psychotherapists and psychoanalysts in the Bay Area for more than thirty five years. We welcome you to join us, share in our community, and take advantage of our rich educational and professional resources. Become a new member today and receive a 20% discount on your first year of membership!

As a member of NCSPP, you will have access to a variety of stimulating educational programs. NCSPP strives to develop programming that fully represents the intellectual diversity of contemporary psychoanalytic psychology. We are fortunate to have many gifted local, national and international teachers on our constantly expanding faculty roster. One very special NCSPP educational opportunity is our year-long Intensive Study Group (ISG). This year’s ISG, Longing to belong: Explorations of belonging and not belonging, begins in November 2023. It promises to be an excellent forum for stimulating, clinically-relevant learning. Members receive a substantially discounted tuition for all of our lectures, courses and workshops.

NCSPP Members receive a complimentary printed copy and online access to our archives of our renowned bi-annual journal, fort da, which publishes contributions from scholars and clinicians interested in the broad spectrum of psychoanalytic ideas. As a NCSPP member you can also receive discounted subscriptions to the International Journal of Psychoanalysis and Psychoanalytic Dialogues.

In addition to providing educational programming and publications, NCSPP offers its members many opportunities to connect with colleagues who share an interest in psychoanalytic psychology and psychoanalysis. All members of NCSPP receive a professional listing in our online membership directory. This searchable, password protected, user-friendly directory makes it easy for us to maintain our connections, identify our clinical specialties and interests, and make and receive referrals. You also can opt-in to be listed in a public directory.

This is a particularly exciting time to join NCSPP. Our current membership is comprised not only of psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic candidates, but also hundreds of clinicians who practice once and twice-per-week psychodynamic psychotherapy. In addition, many of us are interested in exploring the relationship between psychoanalytic psychology and other perspectives on mental health theory and practice. We are continuing our efforts to increase the diversity of our organization on a variety of levels, and we are exploring the roles our membership might play in bringing psychoanalytic thought to the broader community. In addition, we understand the challenge of developing meaningful community as a private practitioner. NCSPP actively supports early career professionals and graduate students in their efforts to develop and maintain identities as private practitioners interested in psychodynamic psychology.

NCSPP membership is open to licensed mental health professionals, as well as unlicensed mental health professionals, academics, students, and others interested in the theory and practice of psychoanalytic psychology. Memberships are currently offered at the yearly rates of $120 for Members, $90 for those who currently work in Community Mental Health, $60 for Associate Members, and $30 for Student Members.

Please feel free to contact us if you’d like to learn more about NCSPP or speak with one of us personally about joining our community. We look forward to meeting you!
