THE AGITATOR & HIS PROPAGANDA MACHINE:
A Psychoanalytic Perspective
Please join the NCSPP Community Events Committee as we host a lively, open-platform style discussion at The Gallery @ Panorama Framing in Oakland. This conversation will revolve around a collection of propaganda and resistance art on display at the gallery.
Psychoanalyst Era Loewenstein will begin the discussion, outlining contemporary psychoanalytic perspectives on the totalitarian leader and his propaganda machine. The totalitarian leader is viewed as an agitator who is invested in inflaming the masses’ pain, frustration, resentment, and irrational passions and channeling them into uninhibited violence against selected groups of victims. The relationship between destructive narcissism, perversion, and the totalitarian state of mind will be highlighted. Among the issues we will explore: the unconscious pact between the totalitarian leader and his followers, and the totalitarian leader’s attack on truth, thinking, and science. The resistance art exhibited at The Gallery @ Panorama Framing is seen as exposing and critiquing Trump and his cabinet’s totalitarian methods and their propaganda tactics.
